Yesterday we welcomed 7 ex-sugar factory workers to the school for lunch to talk about their time in the sugar factory. It was a wonderful hour of conversation and our artist, Jean Robertson, from Mural Mayhem went away with some great gems for our project. Carlow Educate Together believe that it is hugely important to remember that the land we lie on used to be part of the Sugar Factory in Carlow, which employed so many of our families in the town. We want to make a permanent exhibition to remind all the community of the history and importance of the factory. Some of our 6th class children along with some members of the sugar factory will be created 3 murals which will tell the story of the sugar factory. We’ll be updating you with news as we go along but we would still be interested in hearing from more ex-sugar factory workers as we believe it is important that as many of them give their input to this project.
