On Thursday  third, fourth, fifth and sixth classes took part in a cross-country race meeting in St Laurence O’Toole’s Sports Ground in Askea. There were runners there from schools from all over Carlow town and county. In all there were seven races. There were over a hundred competitors in most of the races. Third class had to compete in the fourth class category, but it was no bother to them. Sixth class ran 1,200 m, while everyone else ran a kilometre (1,000 metres). The meeting was run by the local athletics club. Well done to everyone who took part, particularly Lara Thunder, who came 16th in her category. It is a fantastic achievement to run for a kilometre or more. Luckily the weather stayed fine. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day out and all the adults present were very proud of how the children, both competitors and spectators, represented our school.
