Bike week activities
We had lots of cycling activities in school during the week. Our bike bus on Friday was great fun, there were cycles down the Barrow Track for some of our senior classes, our senior infants did some excellent skills training every day on the school grounds before venturing out to cycle through the Teagasc Farm. Our integrated classes were cycling every day and are now whizzing around the basketball courts on their bikes. Thanks to everyone who helped out and to parents for bringing in bikes and helmets. A big thanks to Jason from CyclingSafety.ie who provided bikes and lessons for our 5th classes.
Thanks again to County Carlow Sports Partnership for the funding to facilitate these events.

Thanks to everyone who came along on our school bike bus this morning. It's a healthy and fun way to start the school day and reduces the amount of traffic around our town. We cycled from Woodies all around the town collecting children (and parents) en route. The kids did a great job cycling in such a big group - thanks to all the staff and parents who helped. Thanks to County Carlow Sports Partnership for their help in funding our activities this #BikeWeek2024

After a week of practice. Both of our Senior Infant classes went on a cycle to Oak Park. Thanks to Mark’s 5th class for keeping an eye on us and to Teagasc for allowing us access a part of the road.

Finally some outdoor learning in the 🌞 for 3rd class.... Bird watching, mini beast hunting and wildflower investigations (and appreciation).

BAKE SALE TOMORROW (Friday 17th)
1pm - 2:15pm
Our 6th class students are hosting a bake sale fundraiser with the help of some of the Parents Association tomorrow. Donations of baked goods gladly accepted.
So if you’re a student bring in some pocket money, or if you’re a parent and want a quick treat before or after collecting your child, or maybe you’re an incoming parent of a junior infant visiting tomorrow, please pop in and get some treats.

We are delighted to welcome Katie Butler to our school. Katie will be covering Emily's maternity leave, together with Erin. We will all really miss Emily, but are looking forward to a term of fun and sunshine (hopefully!).

BAKE SALE
There will be a bake sale fundraiser this Friday in the school hall. 6th class are organising some fundraisers over the coming weeks to help reduce the cost of their annual school tour which, as many things in recent times, has risen in price. The bake sale is their first idea of a fundraiser.
We are looking for pupils and/or their parents to help us out by baking some good to be sold on the day to help raise funds to reduce the cost for them. So if there are some avid bakers in the house we’d love for you to get baking and donate some goods for our sale on Friday.
If you’d like to bake and donate some goodies please drop them to the hall on Friday morning or email Gary in advance on gary@carloweducatetogether.ie

Today is Rhonda's last day working in our school. We are so sorry to see her go. Rhonda has been a part of our school for 12 years and we are so grateful to her for all she has done over the years. She helped set up and run so many things in our school such as the library and the school food provision that make all the difference to the school day. We wish you all the very best, Rhonda. On Tuesday 14th May we will say bon voyage to Rhonda. Rhonda has been a member of the carlow etns family since 2012 and has had many roles, from parent to chairperson of parents council to head of our school kitchen. Over the years Rhonda has contributed so much to our school community, from book fairs, open days, fundraisers, graduation gowns and countless other events. We learned all about the importance of dandelions for our pollinators this week. We also made dandelion honey. If you like marmalade you’ll love this recipe. We used Dee Sewell’s recipe from Greenside Up

We had a fantastic day in Carlow College with Heritage for Schools and the Heritage council. We learned about swallows, explored medieval artefacts and learned about bees.

The camp will run from Tueday the 7th to Friday the 10th of May.
