In Emer’s class this week we’ve been learning all about different winter festivals. We learnt about the First Christmas Tree and how Christians celebrate Christmas. Our favourite was learning about a Jewish festival called Hanukkah. Long, long ago the King would not allow the Jewish people celebrate their faith. The king messed up their temple and made them very sad. One man decided to gather his friends to get the King out of their land. His name was Judah Maccabee. The King left and the Jewish people got their temple back. They cleaned it up and decided to light a candle in the temple and that it should be kept lit. They didn’t have enough oil but because of a Hanukkah miracle the candle stayed lit. Jewish people celebrate this holiday by lighting a Menorah that has eight holy candles. Have a look at the ones we made and see what you think!

Happy Hanukkah everyone!
