Active Week 2013

We celebrated Active Week in our school this week. Every morning we held an assembly on yard where we participated in ‘Wake and Shake’. This was a five minute exercise class and everyone got involved. We played co-operative games on Tuesday and on Wednesday the Parents’ Council organised a yard game for us.

On Thursday our football team played a special match against Portlaoise Educate Together NS. It was a close game but in the end, Carlow ETNS came through with a well deserved win. On Friday, we concluded Active Week with a ‘Penalty Shoot-Out’ against Simon. Unfortunately, our class only managed to score three goals against Simon! Thanks to all the teachers on the Active Week Organising Team who spent a lot of time preparing activities for us this week and we had a fantastic time!

Great Games

To celebrate Active Week, we went outside this morning to do P.E. We played lots of games like touch the ball and a game called ‘Gutter Ball’. It was great fun and everyone enjoyed it. People got a little confused at start but in the end we all loved it.

I loved the games and we all worked as a team.

A Life That’s Mine – A poem by 3rd and 4th Class

A Life That’s Minephoto (11)

When I grow up I want to be,

a teacher, a writer, or a builder; it could be me.

If those don’t work out there’s a chance that I

will become a surgeon, a doctor or a pilot who can fly.

If it happens to be that I can’t get these jobs,

maybe I’ll be found fixing door knobs.

Whatever transpires, I’ll be fine,

I’ll be leading a life that’s completely mine.

Visit by Olive Mooney

We enjoyed a special visit by author Olive Mooney today. Olive has written ‘The Chronicles of Cadaver College’ series and she read a selection of excerpts from her book for the children in 3rd – 6th class this afternoon. Olive was on hand to sign her book following the reading. We would like to thank Olive for taking the time to visit us this afternoon and we wish her every success with her new books. Click here to visit Olive’s website.

We got a sneaky look at a new book called ‘The Chronicles Of Cadaver College: The  Book of Ornis’ by Olive Mooney. We love it so far.  The author of the book will be visiting our class next Friday to give us a live reading of the book. We are really looking forward to hearing it.

Living in Ireland

A new study was published today which found that children in Ireland are the 10th happiest in the world. We wrote some reasons explaining why we, as children in Ireland, are happy in Ireland using our class laptops and here is a ‘wordle’ detailing our responses.
