Communion / Confirmation

Many of the children in Carlow Educate Together made their First Holy Communion and their Confirmation at a very special service in St. Clare’s Church in Graiguecullen. A big congratulations to them and their families. A huge thanks to Samantha and Michael who prepared the children for their special days and to the Graiguecullen Parish for accommodating us. The children reported to have had a wonderful day.

Thank you to everybody who bought a friendship bracelet for Friendship Week this year. We raised a total of €156 for Amnesty International. This contribution benefited Guatemalan street children in Covenant House – a social service agency that provides food, shelter and medical services for some of the world’s 100,000,000 street children.

Féile comes to Graiguecullen

The Féile Peil na Og is coming to Graiguecullen this year and we had some very special visitors from the Laois GAA in our school today. We had the president of Laois GAA and the captain of the football team in speaking to the children. We also had members of the Graiguecullen GAA in the school and other very important people. The children were so well behaved as each of the people spoke to them about the Féile. We look forward to supporting the teams in the festival in June! Below are some photos of the special assembly.

Congratulations to Pauric and his brother, Eamon who made their First Holy Communion at Killeshin Church on Saturday. They were super on Saturday and they had a lovely day with their family – well done boys!

Fantastic new Art Materials

Thanks to the fundraising ventures in Dunnes Stores, the children were delighted to receive some brand new art equipment in their classrooms. Every teacher ordered materials for their classroom and they will have great use with them for the remainder of the year.

Egypt Project

Adrian’s class are doing a fantastic project on Egype at the moment along with some of the children’s parents in the class. They are making models of pyramids and learning all about Ancient Egypt. Here’s some photos of all their great work!

Coffee Morning and Cake Sale

We had an amazing response to our coffee morning and cake sale on Friday with over 40 parents joining us. The student council and parent council joined together for the event. Rumour has it that Tesco ran out of flour, sugar and eggs yesterday – there were so many cakes brought along. A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event. Below are some photographs.

Student Council Cake Sale Success

The student council hosted a wonderful cake sale for all the children in the school. Parents and staff made lots of buns, cupcakes and other goodies for the sale. Pictured here are the student council before the crowds came and the cakes disappeared!

Seachtain na Gaeilge Assembly

Michael organised a very special Seachtain na Gaeilge assembly today. Children from every class gave a little party piece in Irish to the rest of the school and parents. It was a fantastic assembly and all the children were “go hiontach!”

Golden Rules Champion

This week saw the start of Golden Rules Champion. This is an initiative to encourage peer recognition of positive behaviour. Children from all classes can nominate a peer for Golden Rules Champion. Each teacher has nomination forms. When a child sees another child (a peer) keeping a Golden Rule she or he can nominate that child. The nomination form must be signed by the person who is nominating a peer. The nomination form goes into the special Golden Rules Champion post box in the hall. Each week a name is picked from the Golden Rules Champion box. The winner receives a prize and his or her picture is displayed for everyone to see. The person who nominated the winner also receives a small prize to thank him or her for taking the time to put another child forward for a prize.

Peer recognition is widely seen as one of the best motivating factors for positive behaviour. While it is a fantastic achievement

to be picked by your teacher for Star of the Week, there is something extra special about being chosen by your own peer group. In CETNS we want to give children an opportunity to both praise and be praised by their peers.

This week we are delighted to announce that Orla, in Aisling’s class, is our first ever Golden Rules Champion. Well done Orla! Zoe nominated Orla and it was lovely to see how delighted she was that Orla won a prize. Thank you also to all of the teachers for their support and help in running this intiative.
At our next assembly Orla will pick the new Golden Rules Champion. Remember you can nominate more than one person each week. Keep those nominations coming in. !
